Questions?

To address questions regarding location sharing and data usage in Rejsekort as an app, we have created an overview of how we process your data. Together with the law firm Poul Schmith, we have conducted a legal assessment confirming that we fully comply with data protection laws and applicable GDPR provisions.

  • Since location data from your phone indicates your geographical position, the app requires this information during your journey. You actively allow Rejsekort as an app to access your data; otherwise, the app cannot be activated
  • The app only registers the most necessary location data. This is to ensure that you, as a traveller, have a valid ticket for bus, train and metro journeys. If location data is not set to 'Always Allow,' the app will not be able to register where your journey starts and ends
  • The app collects only the data that is absolutely necessary to ensure a good travel experience for you
  • The app only stores data that is relevant to your travel activity
  • All data is stored securely and in accordance with applicable GDPR provisions

Background information

When do we use your location?

  • We register location data when Rejsekort as an app is visible on your screen, for example, when searching for nearby stations or stops before you check in to calculate the correct departure stop/station
  • If you check in, we save the registration of your location data to calculate the correct route and price for the journey
  • We only have access to your location data when the app is open and visible on your screen without you being checked in, or when you are checked in via the app
  • When you are checked in via the app, we use your location data to map your journey. We do this solely to match the GPS coordinates of your phone with the stations or stops you pass and the schedules from Rejseplanen
  • We track your location until you check out – even if you open other apps along the way. When you reach your destination and check out, we stop registering your location information
  • The system has now calculated your route and price, and we do not need any further data

What do we use your location data for?

We use your location solely to:

  • Map your journeys from start to finish
  • Document your journey in the system via a match between the GPS coordinates of your phone, the stations or stops you pass, and the schedules from Rejseplanen.
  • Calculate the correct price for the journey when we know your start and end destinations
  • Remind you to check out, so you avoid overpaying for your trip
  • Automatically check you out when you have enabled Smart check-out in the app
  • Ensure that you remain checked in and have a valid ticket if the app or your phone unexpectedly shuts down

Why should you select 'Always Allow' location sharing on iPhone?

If you have an iPhone, you must select 'Always Allow' location sharing when installing Rejsekort as an app. Apple's operating system requires that travellers select 'Always Allow' on their iPhone to allow us to ensure that:

  • The ticket remains valid even if the app is closed by you or shuts down due to updates etc.
  • We can remind you to check out if we register that you are no longer travelling (that there is no longer a match between the GPS coordinates of your phone, the stations or stops you pass, and the schedules from Rejseplanen) but are still checked in on the app
  • Smart check-out works as intended

1. Start your journey – check in

Open Rejsekort as an app, and the nearest station or stop will automatically be displayed. You need to be near a station or stop to check in. If you are not, an error message will appear explaining the issue.

You must check in before boarding a means of transport to ensure your ticket is valid.

Check in by swiping to the right.

2. Travel and show your ticket

Enjoy your trip without worries. When the inspector comes by, simply tap 'Show ticket' so your QR code can be scanned. The inspector may require you to show ID.

When changing means of transport, you don't need to do anything in the app. Wait until the end of your journey to check out.

3. End your journey – check out

When you have finished your journey and left the means of transport, check out by swiping to the left. The app will take care of the rest.

Do you sometimes forget to check out? You can get help by enabling Smart check-out.

4. After your journey

Rejsekort as an app calculates your price and settles your trips once a day.

If you are entitled to discounts, they will automatically be added to your daily invoice. Payment is made once a day via MobilePay for the trips you have taken during the day.

Yes, you can still use your Rejsekort as a card.

Please note that you can only see your journeys on your Rejsekort as card when you log in to Self Service. Similarly, in the app, you will only be able to see the journeys that you have taken with Rejsekort as an app.

Please be aware that any discount levels earned on one will not be registered on the other. You can transfer your earned discount levels from your Rejsekort as a card to Rejsekort as an app. Read more about this option in the app under the "Discounts" menu and then "Volume Discount".

Note that you can only transfer your volume discount once. If you continue to use Rejsekort as a card after the transfer, any further earned volume discount will not be transferred to the app.
